Mags is a 21 year old Canadian jazz-contemporary pop singer, songwriter, and faith speaker from a small farming community in Ontario, Canada, and is the 3rd oldest child of a family with 9 children. Clinically diagnosed with depressive and anxiety disorders, Mags views singing and song-writing not only as a talent but as an opportunity to inspire and encourage others to seek God through suffering and pain even when He feels farthest away.
Currently, Mags has released 4 albums and is a 3x nominee at the Canadian Gospel Music Association awards for her 3 albums, a songwriter finalist in the John Lennon Songwriting International Competition, and is a Canadian Christian speaker. Click (here) to view Mags’ speaking ministry.
With regards to her music career, Mags started singing at 13 by doing background vocals on Christian rock CDs. Later, she officially jumped into the local music scene by being a finalist in the Faith FM’s Shining Star competition in 2009 at the age of 14. After the contest, producer Andrew Horrocks (2010 Canadian Gospel Music Association Producer of the Year) was so impressed by her abilities that he encouraged her to pursue singing independently. In 2010, Maggie won the Wellesley Idol competition using entirely original material, and in 2011, at age 15, recorded (with producer Andrew Horrocks) her first album, “Dreaming of Christmas”, with some of Canada’s premier jazz musicians. Shortly after the album’s release, it was nominated for Best Seasonal Album at the 2011 Canadian Gospel Music Association (CGMA) Awards. In 2013, Mags released her second album, “Missmatched”, which was nominated for Pop/Contemporary Album of the year at the 2013 CGMA Awards. Her single, “Knock” (click here to view song), in August 2013, made the Top 7 on the Canadian Christian music charts and, the following month, her song “Lead Me to the River” (click here to view song) was also a Finalist in the prestigious John Lennon Songwriting Contest.
Mags kick started 2014 in Florida by winning the American Idol Experience competition (click here to see video)- allowing her to bypass the audition lines in any upcoming season of American Idol to try out – and recording her newest album, “When I Fall In Love“- a live off-the-floor Jazz record with classics such as “You Make Me Feel So young” and “I’ve Got You Under My Skin” along with some originals that you don’t want to miss! Better yet- this album has made history as the first music album ever recorded in both 3D visual and binoral sound, tailored specifically for the up-and-coming gaming device, the Occulus Rift, but also available in standard 2D visual and sound (standard mp3 format).
Mags is recording her fourth album (a Christian pop album) at internationally acclaimed Dark Horse Studios in Nashville, TN. (the studio which produced artists such as Taylor Swift, Martina McBride, Neil Diamond, and many others) with producer Billy Smiley.
